This weekend, fans of the smash hit “Succession” on HBO will be rewarded with the long-awaited premiere of the show’s third season. The series follows the adult children of an extravagantly wealthy family as they compete for control of their aging father’s media empire and has inspired remixes, memes, think pieces, and a few viral videos. Even for those who aren’t regular viewers, “Succession” is just one of the many award-winning shows currently available on cable TV networks.

After the show’s second season premiered in 2019, it drew an average audience of over 4 million for each episode, according to HBO. Only time will tell how much the audience has grown over the longer-than-normal hiatus (thank the COVID-19 pandemic), but many are anticipating another installment of critically-acclaimed, award-winning television—a trend for many programs on HBO.

At this year’s Emmy Awards, when Succession was absent from the lineup, the network snagged 19 trophies for its other fantastic programming. HBO has been a leader in the game for over 40 years, with a well-established track record of producing some of the best TV every single year.

That’s because over the past two decades cable TV networks like HBO have invested over $430 billion in programming, delivering shows like “Game of Thrones,” “Breaking Bad,” “Mad Men,” “Pose” and more. Whether it’s this weekend’s premiere or another favorite drama, cable TV continues to innovate and deliver excellence.
